About Career Guidance
Career guidance is a process. It helps you to explore options, make choices and action them.
It helps you better understand your strengths and what matters to you, and to become better informed and equipped to manage your career.
We also draw on labour market studies, latest research findings & experience with the career paths of hundreds of clients.
As with many fields, career guidance has moved on since we were at school!
At WorkChanges we seek to respond to your needs and priorities. We work together to come up with a grounded vision and approach which inspires you, and which draws on our professional support and experience.
Professional career guidance can look at how you communicate achievements & strengths to meet employer needs, – but it also goes beyond this.
Topics you might choose to explore could be:
- Regrouping after major transitions;
- regaining confidence;
- identifying your strengths and skills;
- clarifying your vision and values;
- exploring potential sectors for employment or self employment & identifying likely roles;
- active research and network building;
- support with your career development strategy;
- weighing up options & decision-making;
- articulating what you have to offer, and targeting your message for different employers;
- reframing experience for a new context;
- incorporating feedback to improve performance;
- communicating trickier messages (e.g. disclosure);
- moving from plans to action.
Sometimes clients simply value a confidential ear outside their local setting, or a chance to hear their own thoughts in a new way. That’s all fine!
I realised in my time in Kenya that career transitions are more complex when individuals are moving countries. My Nairobi-based career guidance business grew to cover a regional footprint, with clients in Kenya, Burundi, Uganda, Nigeria, Sudan and Tanzania, and successful moves in-country and to new continents.
Clients had found it difficult to get appropriate support in their host country. WorkChanges addresses this need.
We offer a spread of appointments from 700am GMT to 10 pm GMT on Fridays/Saturdays/Sundays. Please do email to see if your preferences can be met, if the available appointments don’t fit your needs or timezone.
Fees are payable in advance, when you book the appointment, by paypal. Paypal also accepts credit card payments.
Appointments cancelled at least 24 hours before their time can be rearranged at no further cost. Unfortunately, those cancelled within 24 hours of the appointment time cannot usually be filled by someone else, and so are charged at full rate.
If phone systems can be patchy where you are, I am happy to join appointments ten minutes early, so we can test audio in advance. People often find audio headphones make it easier to concentrate and to note down your thoughts.
You ring me and pay for the phonecall, and so where possible, many clients choose skype to skype. However I understand that broadband capacity doesn’t make skype possible everywhere. I have a landline to which clients also skype. I am happy to explore teleconferencing with local dial-in if there is a service which works better where you are.
If your internet or power does break down at our appointment time, please can you text to let me know, to the number on your confirmation email, and we can rearrange.
